APOTROPAIC MARKS

A book of apotropaic marks, or more commonly known as ‘witches marks’. Deep scratches and engravings were once thought to ward off evil and still today have been found in wooden doorways across Scotland. Additionally, clay figures known as the ‘corp creadh’ or ‘clay body’ were once thought to be used by witches to inflict harm upon their enemies. Combining these two fabled happenings, this book explores these supposed rituals of Scotland.
