' Morrígan'
Three layer screen print, 420 x 297mm
The Morrígan was an Irish goddess of war and destiny, who often appears in the form of a raven. She was known to foretell doom, death and victory in war - instilling both fear and bravery in those who witnessed her flying alongside them during battle. She’s sometimes linked to the banshee of Irish folklore, too.
Ravens have gotten an ominous reputation throughout history - their diet of carrion ensured they would be present during times of death such as war or famine. Their ability to mimic human speech and their intelligence also earned them an association with prophecy within myth and folklore.
