Ma'at
'Ma'at' linoprint, 190x280mm. In Ancient Egypt, Ma'at was the goddess of truth, harmony and balance. It was believed that she prevented the universe from reverting to chaos. At the end of a human life, they would be taken to the Hall of Truth, where their heart would be weighed against Ma'at's feather of truth. If the heart weighed less than the feather, they could happily proceed to the afterlife. However, if the heart was heavier, it would be devoured by the demoness Ammit, and the soul would be sentenced to an eternity of darkness.
